Sculpting fabrics are made to stretch and recover, wear after wear. Looking after them properly keeps the colour rich, the compression firm and the fit exactly how you like it. Always check the care label on your piece first, then follow these simple habits.
1. Wash cold, inside out
Turn your pieces inside out and wash on a cold, gentle cycle. Heat is the biggest enemy of stretch fabric.
2. Skip the fabric softener
Softener coats the fibres, which can trap odour and reduce stretch. A small amount of mild detergent is all you need.
3. Use a laundry bag
A mesh bag stops zips, hooks and straps from snagging on other clothes, which is especially helpful for shapewear and fajas.
4. Air dry, never tumble dry
Lay flat or hang to dry in the shade. Tumble dryers and direct sun can weaken elastic and fade colours.
5. Wash darks and brights separately
Keep black, red and other deep colours apart from whites and light shades, especially for the first few washes.
6. Rotate your sets
Giving each piece a rest between wears helps the fabric fully recover its shape.
